7 "Son of a retired sea captain" - DNB
Horticultural Writer
Hibberd, James Shirley (I333)

8 According to Burkes Landed Gentry of Ireland, Marianne was the dau of Rev J B Laughton.

Her death cert in 1814 gives an age of 85 i.e. she was born in 1828 +/-1

Est birthdate of 1828/9 tallies with birth dates of children. i.e. earliest 1852 (aged 23) and last 1874 (aged 45)

According to marriage notice in the Sydney Morning Herald, She was the step-dau of JBL - Marianne would have been the dau of Jane Looney. This is possible as there is a 1843 shipping list entry for Mr & Mrs Laughton + daughter. However, I cannot find a Marianne (or Mary Ann) dau of Jane Looney
[Looney?], Marianne Frances Jane (I279)

9 Adopted after her fathers death by Charles Monague Mitchell, nephew of James Shirley Hibberd's 1st wife. Hibberd, Ellen Shirley (I336)

10 Age 43 on register. True age = 46 Glasier, Arthur Samuel (I350)

12 All the IGI entries are 'member submitted' but the dates are in accordance with the 1861 census age. Potts, Margaret Laughton (I309)

13 As the name is re-used, we can assume that he died before 1847 Bell, Francis (I332)

14 As the parents were maried in 1862, it would seem that the 1st 4 childern were born prior to the marriage. Family: Robert Studdert / Marianne Frances Jane [Looney?] (F90)

Bell, Francis (I6)

22 Died at sea, Cape Horn. master of Caledonia.
Source JKL Manuscript

According to Lloyds List, James Laughton was master of Caledonia, 1815 to 1825, sailing first between Liverpool and Buenos Aires, later between Liverpool and Valparaiso.

R Holman was listed as master of Caledonia 1826 to 1832 on the Liverpool Valparaiso route.

Caledonia does not appear in Lloyds list after 1832, so presumed lost 1833.
Foubister, John (I367)

23 Died from a cerebral haemorrage following a fall when her walking stick broke. Laughton, Grace Ellen Effingham (I20)

24 Family link based on the supposition that the Kate Clancy ientified in the 1871 census is 'our' Kate. There is an age discrepency of 4 years, but maybe she 'lost' a few years when she married :-)

Could be more certain if we got Kate's marriage or death cert.
Family: Clancy / Mary (F129)

25 First name gives some fun in the records...
Birth recorded as Seber
1901 Census recorded as Ceber
Marriage recorded as Zeber
Legg, Zeber Hilda V (I412)

26 George Studdert has a slightly odd NSW BDM ref no of 165/1908 Studdert, George Austin (I314)

27 He died Q2 1894 aged 90 which implies that he was born 1803/4
But census ages of 85 at begining of April 1891 imply a birthdate between April 1805 and Mar 1806.

I guess his death certificate age is incorrect.

Bell, Francis (I6)

28 Her wedding cert to Robert Studdert lists her as Widow. [Looney?], Marianne Frances Jane (I279)

The Sydney Morning Herald
Tuesday 13 March 1860

Presumably placed in the SMH by his son, James Brotherston Laughton. This underlines the mail clipper transit times of 90-100 days during that era.

37 Lieutenant Hubert H S Laughton, 2nd Worcestershire Regiment, who died at the Epsom Manor War Hospital, on November 25, of septic pneumonia, aged 21, was the youngest son of the late Sir John Knox Laughton, R.N., and Lady Laughton of Wimbledon. He was educated at the Wimbledon Catholic College, King's College School, Wimbledon, and King's College London where he showed promise of a brilliant career in science. He was gazetted to the Worcestershire Regiment in August 1915, before reaching his 18th birthday, and a year later went to France, where he was in the forefront of the fighting for two years.
